Add files to your Project

Once you’ve created a Project, import your Sketch files or create new ones.

The files you import or create will make up your Project’s Master. Master is what we call the finalized, approved designs for a Project. When you’re ready to start working, you’ll create a Branch from Master.

How to create new Project files

If you’d like to start your Project from scratch, you can create a brand new Sketch file to serve as your Project’s Master.
To create a new Sketch file:

  1. Once you’ve created a Project in the Abstract desktop app, click CREATE SKETCH FILE.
  2. Name your Sketch file.
  3. Decide whether you’ll use this file as a Library.
  4. Click CREATE SKETCH FILE. Your new Sketch file will appear in the Files list.
  5. To begin designing, select your new Sketch file and click EDIT IN SKETCH.
  6. Choose CREATE A BRANCH.

How to import files to a new Project

If you have existing design files, you can import them to your Project. To import a Library, follow our Add a Library instructions instead.

💡Abstract tip: Only import files that represent the most up-to-date version of your product. Duplicate and/or outdated files will will create confusion and clutter for your team.
To import files to your Project:

  1. Once you’ve created a Project in the Abstract desktop app, select IMPORT SKETCH FILE.
  2. Select the file from your computer.
    • ⚠️ Heads up: We recommend importing Sketch files no larger than 50MB. Abstract performs best when individual Sketch files are smaller than 50MB or contain less than 500 artboards.
  3. Click Import. Your Sketch file will appear in the Files list.
  4. To begin designing, select your Sketch file and click EDIT IN SKETCH.
  5. Choose CREATE A BRANCH.

You can add files directly to Master or to individual branches at any time. Files added to Branches will appear in Master once the Branch is merged.

  3. Select Master from the left side pane.
  4. Drag-and-drop your file into Abstract.
    1. Alternatively, you can click ADD FILE and follow the prompts.

How to replace files in a Project
